Black, White, and One other color...

Black and white layouts always look so striking to me.  Add in a pop of one color and you have a great combination.  That is the challenge at Frosted Designs this time around.  Make a project with black, white and one other color.  I chose to work with an aqua color for this challenge.  I love the way it pops against the black.

Make sure you take a look at the other designers on the Frosted Designs blog.  There is always something new on the blog!  Don't forget to link up your project for a chance to win a prize and so I can check it out!

Doilies and a sketch...

Join us this week at Frosted Designs for a fun sketch.  Make sure you add doilies to it to be entered in to win a prize!

I used the sketch as inspiration and out came this layout.  Doilies are something I use often on my layouts.  Just love how they look even with boys!  I used some glimmer mist to change the color of the doilies just slightly.

I used these small flowers (used glimmer mist to make some blue) for my "banner".  I'm not a big banner user but do like the look of them.

Make sure you stop by the blog to check out all the other designers great creations.  Link up your project to the Frosted Designs blog so I can check them out.

Travel...

With the arrival of spring and summer not too long after, travel begins to play upon our minds.  "Travel" is the theme for the challenge over at Frosted Designs for the next couple weeks.  I used the thought of traveling through life for my layout.  The past couple of years have been quite the "journey" for myself and family.  Many different situations have lead us down many paths.

This is a photo of myself and my brothers from 1982.  Life has brought quite the journey in 31 years.  I have used "map" alphabet letters and a chipboard postcard on my layout.

I hope you will join us over at Frosted Designs for the "Travel" challenge.  Make sure you stop by the blog to check out the other days of inspiration.  While you are there link up your project so I can check it out and for the chance to win a great prize.

Scallops....

The challenge over at Frosted Designs this time around is "Scallops".  I chose to use a scallop lace on my project.  I covered a paper mache mannequin with book pages, glimmer mist and glam, and then embellished it with laces and flowers.  Two letter stickers finished off my project.

Make sure you stop by the blog to check out all the scallop projects.  While you are there, link up your project so I can check it out and for the chance to win a great prize.

Up, Up, and Away...

The challenge this time around at Frosted Designs is "Up, Up, and Away".  Anything goes that you would find up in the air.  I love taking photos of the sun and clouds.  I am always finding myself checking the sky to see what beauty it is bringing.  I used one of those photos to create this layout.

I wanted the photo to be the main focus so I kept it simple with a doily, some string, flower, wood birds, and some mist

Hope you will play along with us at Frosted Designs with this challenge.  Make sure you link up your project for the chance to win a prize and so I can check it out!

Toilet Paper Hearts Tutorial...

Hi Everyone!  Lydia here and today I would like to show you how to make 3D hearts out of toilet paper.  I first made these with my sister-in-law and have made them for several projects now.  They are fun and easy to make.

Supplies you will need are:

*Parchment Paper (Baker's paper)
*Toilet Paper (any kind.....here I have some really cheap thin stuff!)
*Mod Podge (or similar glue)
*Foam Paint Brushes
*Acrylic Paint

Begin by tearing off several squares of toilet paper.  The number you will need depends on how big you want your heart to be or how many you want to make.  Toilet paper will stick to gluey fingers if trying to tear off more after you've begun glueing.  :)

Dip the foam brush in the Mod Podge and apply a generous amount to the toilet paper square.  I squish it around to get all the glue into the paper.  Lay the paper on the parchment paper and start to form the heart.

Continue this step until the heart is complete and shaped the way you would like it to be.

Again, the size of the hearts will depend on how many sheets of toilet paper you have used.

The hearts will need to dry on the parchment paper over night.  I have found that best rather than try to dry them with a heat tool.  In the morning, I turn the hearts over so the bottoms can dry.  They are usually ready to paint within 24 hours of making them.  If there are rough edges of dried glue, just trim them with scissors.

Use a foam brush to apply acrylic paint to the hearts.  Since the hearts are 3D and the surface not smooth, I find it best to dab the paint onto them.

When the paint has dried, the hearts are ready to be used on your project or add a second color of paint/mist/ink to them.

Here are some recent projects I have made using toilet paper hearts.  I use Mod Podge to adhere them to my projects.  You could also use a hot glue gun.

I hope you have enjoyed my tutorial on toilet paper hearts.  Make sure you stop by the Frosted Designs blog to play along with all the challenges and meet the new Design Team.  I would love to see your toilet paper hearts.  Link your project up here on my blog or my post on the FD blog so I can check them out.  Thanks for stopping by!
